Today on foodies it’s all about the crunch. You know what I’m talking about…that craving for something to sink your teeth into that only a whole bag of chips will satisfy! Unfortunately, once you open the bag you are bound to end up eating more than just your fair share and to top it off, you can’t even pronounce 99% of the ingredients on the package!
Here at the Petruno house, we are trying to avoid as much fake processed food as possible and that means ditching the chips. Yes, we have tried the wholesome, “all natural”, organic, whole wheat, non GMO versions from our local health food store but those pieces of cardboard get a big fat thumbs down from Eric and usually end up in the chicken coop! But today my friends, you are in luck. I say make your own chips! And it takes mere minutes and a few favorites spices before you have your own big bowl to crunch into.
I went with two types of chips today…I mean why limit yourself right?
I seasoned one batch with a mix of paprika, chili powder, garlic powder and salt and the second batch with cinnamon and sugar! Pop in the oven for 10 minutes and BOOM…chips! Cool and store in an air tight bag and you’ll be able to enjoy a snack at any time. I guarantee these will be a hit with kids and husbands alike!
You’ll need a stack of good quality tortillas or you can make your own
Spices of your choice and either olive oil for savory chips, or melted butter for a sweeter version
Preheat your oven to 325*
Lay your tortillas out and using a pastry brush, brush the oil or butter onto the tortilla. Next sprinkle with your spice combinations. Stack tortillas and cut into chip pieces. Lay out each piece on a baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes. Cool completely and store in an air tight container.
